1. Material Science and Rheology of LDPE

Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is unique in the polyolefin family due to its long-chain branching (LCB). This molecular structure provides LDPE with exceptional melt elasticity and shear-thinning characteristics. Under high shear rates, the long-chain branches align, resulting in a dramatic reduction in viscosity. Our screws integrate barrier zones and Maddock mixing elements. The barrier flight separates solid polymer pellets from the melted pool, preventing un-melted solids from passing forward and causing structural weaknesses. The mixing elements provide the necessary shear to homogenize additives, color masterbatches, and processing aids without elevating the melt temperature beyond the polymer's thermal stability limit.
